On August 8, 1969, photographer Iain Macmillan took six frames of the Beatles crossing Abbey Road in London. The fifth frame became the cover of Abbey Road. In a recollection cited by Amateur Photographer, Macmillan said it was the one where the band members’ legs formed a clear V. He used a Hasselblad 500C with a 50mm lens from a stepladder.

The familiar album-cover photograph below is an archival reproduction, not an instruction to photograph in traffic. Its publication and reproduction rights require review. Photographer: Iain Macmillan.
