Here is what Easters Preparation looks like in Jerusalem in a visual story told by David Goldstein.
In the ultra orthodox neighborhood of Mea Shearim in Jerusalem, few days before the beginning of the jewish Easter in the end of April (“Pessah”) is what is called “Kimcha De Pascha”. The Hassidic community collects, carries and give food to all the families (around 850, so more than 10 000 people). It is an important day. Most of the families live in very poor condition, as they usually do not work, so the food given there is a huge help. The neighborhood becomes a bubble, full of life and excitement.
Mea Shearim was established in 1874. It is a neighborhood where it is usually hard to go in and take pictures. “Life revolves around strict adherence to Jewish law, prayer, and the study of Jewish religious texts. Traditions in dress include black frock coats and black hats for men, and long-sleeved, modest clothing for women”.
