Katrina Brown’s night photographs show tents and desert rocks under circular star trails. The first-person statement below is her account from the original feature, followed by the restored gallery.
Shooting Stars by Katrina Brown.
Commercial photographer Katrina Brown tells ShutYourAperture about her other life.
I primarily shoot commercial and editorial photography with an unreasonable expectation of perfection.
When I’m not shooting commercially, I shoot the stars. Not the ones in Hollywood but the ones where you have to escape the city, hide from life out on the playa of Death Valley and leave your shutter open for 8+ hours.
I love the way my profession makes me feel-the hunt, the skill and the finale of an image captured, bottled up ready to share with the world.
I firmly believe to be a valuable artist, it is necessary to acquire the skills to photograph as many genres as possible. I socialize by teaching conceptual photography classes where I get to contaminate others afflicted with the same creative disease.
Keep your own star-trail study archive
For a star-trail photo study of your own, keep original files beside your notes and finished edits. A black Samsung T7 Shield portable SSD, 1TB model MU-PE1T0S/AM, is one storage option to compare. Check capacity and your computer connection before buying. Open the copied files and maintain another checked copy separately. A drive does not replace a complete backup plan. Compare the current retailer specifications; no hands-on test, price or stock promise is being made here.
