Golden Gate Bridge under construction:
Construction began on January 5, 1933 the project was finished by April 1937. Eleven workers lost their lives during its construction.
The bridge-opening celebration began on May 27, 1937 and lasted for one week. The day before vehicle traffic was allowed, 200,000 people crossed by foot and roller skates.
Workers complete the catwalks for the Golden Gate Bridge, hundreds of feet above the water, prior to spinning the bridge cables during construction in 1935.
