Black and White street photography in Berlin that will make you look twice
Sebastian Jacobit is a 29-year-old Street Photographer from Berlin. His Photo Series “Berlin After Dark” is a Street Series shot with a flash at night on Berlin’s Christmas Markets showing the “dark” side of Berlin.
These photos are shot during Christmas in Berlin. The Ku’Damm is enlightened with all the Christmas decoration and offers a unique opportunity for this kind of Street Photography.
“Often times we feel less motivated during the winter. Especially for photography, there seems this prejudice that we need good light in order to create good photographs. Often times I even hear that Street Photographers don’t want to go out for a photo walk when it is a little cloudy or rains a bit.”
Sebastian explains that with this series he wanted to challenge himself. He wanted to show how people acted on the streets during Christma since its a busy time of year.
“Street Photography is always possible no matter the circumstances. Wherever I go I take the camera with me.”
Walking through the street s of Berlin armed with a Ricoh GR and a Speed Light, Sebastian is able to capture the emotion of the streets. He explains that using a flash for street photography is not as hard as one may think. It is undoubtedly that flash gives street photography a unique look. I particularly love the emotion this series offers if you look at the way people are smiling it has a way of rubbing off and making you smile. The same thing goes for the people that look a bit more serious, you can’t help but wonder what is going through their head.
